Norma ""Louise"" Horton, 93, of Amarillo died Saturday, August 29, 2009. Services will be held on Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. in the Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel with Marty Hamrick, associate pastor of Polk Street United Methodist Church officiating. Graveside services will be at 4:00 PM Tuesday in South Park Cemetery at Roswell, NM. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St. Amarillo, Texas. Louise was born on February 28, 1916 at Penn Township, Pennsylvania to Orpha Jane and Seymour Kester. She graduated from Curwensville, PA High School and attended Phillipsburg State Hospital School of Nursing, Phillipsburg, PA in 1937. She married Edward C. Horton at Bigler, PA on August 6, 1938. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Roswell. NM. Louise was preceded in death by her husband in June of 1972. She was also preceded in death by 5 brothers, Bob, Lex, Kenneth, Glen and Bill and one sister, Helen. She lived in Pennsylvania until 1957 when she moved her family to Roswell, NM to have a better quality of life for her children who had asthma and husband, who had Multiple Sclerosis. Louise worked as a school nurse with Lawrence Township Schools, Clearfield, PA, Dexter, Hagerman and Lake Arthur School Districts in New Mexico and at Roswell Independent School District until she retired in 1978. She was a volunteer coordinator for the AARP in the Roswell area for a number of years, a volunteer at the Eastern New Mexico Medical Center, numerous nursing associations and the Board of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Roswell. She also served as volunteer nurse during summer months for the Sacramento Methodist Camp in New Mexico. Louise was always available to give her loving nursing care to those who needed her until her own health began failing and she moved to Amarillo to live near her daughter. She is survived by her daughter, Patty Smith and husband, Bob of Amarillo, son Frank Horton and wife Ginger of Houston and son Ron Horton of Houston She is also survived by four grandchildren, Darren Smith of Panhandle, TX, Marcus Smith of Amarillo and Rob Jones and Laura Horton of Houston, TX. She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren, Robbie and Anastasia Jones of Houston, Olivia, Camryn and Noah Smith of Amarillo and Chelsy and Marissa Smith of Panhandle, Texas. She is also survived by one sister, Bernice Edmiston of Williamsburg, PA. She is survived by a special nephew, Dick Caldwell and wife Dee of Monroeville, PA, as well as many nieces and nephews, too numerous to name. Her family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorials be made in her name to the Olivia's Angels c/o BSA Hospice P.O. Box 950 Amarillo, TX 79105 or the Children's Miracle Network at BSA Hospital, 1600 Wallace Blvd., Amarillo, Texas.
