She married Johnny West, professional dancer, and pianist on Feb. 14, 1948. Olive graduated from the San Jacinto Beauty School and later worked at the Amarillo Air Force Base in the Motor Pool during WWII. She taught pre-schoolers at Buchanan St. Baptist Church for 22 years. Olive will be remembered for her quick humor and wit, along with a free spirit, which endeared many people to her. God has a special place in His heart for Olive, for He watched over her through many decades with dementia. Olive is out of her wheelchair and now in the arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ. It won't be long till we will meet her up in Heaven. What a glorious reunion that will be! ""Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints."" Psalms 116:15. All who loved her are thankful for the special woman we knew as Mama, Mee-Maw, ""Gravel Gertie"", Stuffed Green Olive, Olive Oyl, and last but not least, a ""Country Girl."" Survivors include a daughter, Debbie Mares and husband Abel, a son, Dennis West and wife Jennifer; a granddaughter Valerie Kocel and husband Paul, 2 grandsons Sheldon and Thornton West. Special thanks go out to her precious ""second family"" at Park Central, especially ""The Village"" who displayed tremendous care and compassion towards her. The family suggest memorials be made to The Village at Ware Living Center 400 W. 14th Ave. Amarillo, Texas 79101 or Olivia's Angels c/o BSA Hospice.
