Ophelia Renteria Montgomery

Ophelia R. Montgomery, 87, of Amarillo died on Sunday, October 8, 2006 in Amarillo. Graveside Services will be held on Wednesday, October 11, 2006 at 10:00 AM in Llano East Cemetery, with Reverend Ronnie Tucker, of Friendship Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home, Osage Chapel, 2800 South Osage, Amarillo TX 79103. Ophelia was born in Des Moines Iowa to Alfonso and Sophia Renteria. She moved to New Mexico and there she raised her family. She then moved to Amarillo in 1951 and spent the rest of her life in Texas. She lived through the years of the depression and believed in working hard. She worked until her retirement at the age of 68, and then decided to work part time until the age of 72. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter Juanita Castillo; and three brothers, Juan Renteria, Manuel Renteria, and Frederico Renteria. She is survived by a brother, Joe Renteria, and a sister, Alice Marshall, both of Roswell NM; her children, Don Urbina of Roswell NM, Jim Montgomery of Del Rio TX, Mary Gomez of Amarillo, Roger Montgomery of Seattle WA, and Frances Esquivel of Amarillo; nineteen grandchildren; sixty three great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
