Orvill James Smith, 82, of Amarillo, died October 14, 2012. Graveside service will be at 11:00 AM Tuesday, October 16, 2012 in Llano East Cemetery, Garden of Gethsemane with Dale Moreland, associate pastor of the Church at Quail Creek officiating. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St. Orvill was born to William J. and Leona Smith on August 31, 1930, in Anadarko. Okla. He married Oletta Corene Smith July 3, 1955 in Vernon, TX. They have made their home in Amarillo, TX since moving from Dumas in 1971. Orvill served in the Army for six years most of the time he was stationed in Germany and Greenland. He worked at ASARCO and retired from there in 1993. He was a member of the Church at Quail Creek at the time of his death. He was a member of Amarillo Senior Citizens Association. He enjoyed many days playing pool with his friends; Orvill was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two brothers, and 2 sisters and his daughter Barbara Normand. Smitty was a kind, loving husband, father to his children and Grandpa to all his grandchildren. He went far above what was expected of him and always helped his family and other when they needed help. We will all miss him and always love him. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Oletta; 1 daughter Shirley Matlock and husband Don, A. Matlock; his sister in law Lorraine Babbitt of Palm Harbor, FL. six grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren; one brother and one sister. He had many nieces and nephews and their families. The family request memorial donations be sent to the Amarillo Senior Citizens Association, Odyssey Hospice or a favorite charity in lieu of flowers.
