Oscar ""Gordo"" Esparza Jr., 10, of Amarillo died Thursday, June 22, 2006. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Cornerstone Baptist Church with Joe Morales and Coy Wylie officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St. Oscar was born March 19, 1996, in Amarillo. He was in the fourth grade at Lawndale Elementary and attended Cornerstone Baptist Church. He fought a long battle with Ewing's Sarcoma cancer. He played first base, had many MVPs and home runs and even had the chance to throw out the first pitch for the Houston Astros. He was also a big fan of the Amarillo Dillas. He was a caring and loving brother and lived a very full life. Survivors include his parents, Edwina and Oscar Esparza Sr.; a brother, Marco Esparza; four sisters, Celeste, Eulallia, Racquel and Angelica Esparza; his grandparents, Maria and Armando Esparza and Mary J. Castillo; and many cousins, aunts, uncles and friends. The family suggests memorials be to the Children's Miracle Network, 1600 Wallace Blvd., Amarillo, TX 79106.
