Preston R. Ellis

Preston R. Ellis, 87 of Amarillo died Tuesday Jan. 13, 2004 at Amarillo, TX. Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Friday at Llano Cemetery with Pastor Eddie Mardis, of Cowboy Church officiating. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage. Mr. Ellis was born in Connerville, Oklahoma. He moved to the Amarillo area in 1964 from Oklahoma. He worked with his brothers for the JA Ranch as a teenager. He trained Palominos at Bartlett Ranch in Salinas, CA. He worked for several ranches throughout his life, including the Ludy Parker Ranch in Ponotoc, OK, and the Perkins Prothro Ranch in Kerrick, TX. He retired in 1977 as foreman of ranch cattle at Texas Tech University Research Center in Amarillo. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lillie Elaine Ellis in 1947. Survivors include: 2 daughters, Sharon E. Mitchell of San Antonio, and DeAnna E. Jones of Amarillo; 1 son, Robert P. Ellis of Amarillo; 1 sister, Ellen Loper of Portland, IN; 2 brothers, James Ellis of Ralls, TX, and Nathan Ellis of Memphis, TX; 9 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.
