Ray Lynn Smith 85, of Amarillo died Friday, June 19, 2020 in Amarillo. Services will be at 11 am Wednesday at Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel with T.C. Messer, pastor of Harvest Time Pentecostal Church of God. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St. Born on January 27 1935, just after twin brother Roy Glen Smith, Ray Lynn Smith was the 8th child of 11 born to Catherine Byrd Smith and Reeves Augusta Smith in Mount Pleasant, TX. Ray went to be with the Lord on June 19, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Randy Smith, two sisters, Josephine Reel and Dovie Peters and three brothers, Carl Edward Smith, Travis Smith and his twin brother Roy Glen Smith. Roy is survived by three sons, Roy Lynn Smith of the Philppines, Ray Don Smith and wife Jamee of Richland, WA, Ronnie Dean Smith and wife Shanna of Amarillo; three sisters Judy Fink, Dorothy Fowler and husband Curtis, Jeffy Taylor and husband Cliff; one brother Jackie Smith and wife Brenda; his grandchildren, Nichole Potter and husband Wade, of Amarillo, Heather McKinnon and husband Ron, of Amarillo, Donnie Smith Jr and wife Mia of Slidell, LA, Josh Smith And wife Megan of Houma, LA, Shane Smith and wife Carrie of Grand Prairie, TX. Randall Glen "RG" Smith and wife Stephanie of Nashville, TN; Angela Burton of Bakersville, CA. and 7 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Ray began service in the National Guard in 1957. He was honorably discharged in 1960. He retired from the Carpenters Union Local 665. He still remains a member in good standing. If you were to meet Ray on the street in a doctors office, in church or a grocery store, he would say to you, "Do you wants some candy?" For many years he carried packages of candy with him everywhere he went. Many called him the "candy man". When asked why he always carried candy, he would say, "If I can get them to talk to me I can invite them to church". He attended Pentecostal Church of God and was a faithful member. He was known for bringing people without transportation to church service. Most of all he loved the Lord. He lived in a house built by his own hands. Ray loved his house and his fellow man. If you had a project that needed done, you just call Ray. He was generous with his time and skills. Ray had a kind and generous heart, he opened his home to many who were down and out on their luck. He will be dearly missed by all.
