Raymond Edward Hensley, 80, of Amarillo passed away on Monday, January 9, 2023. The family will receive guests on Thursday, January 12, 2023 from 5pm to 7pm at Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage. Funeral services will be held at MORE Church, 5511 W. Amarillo Blvd, on Friday, January 13, 2023 at 2pm with Pastor Richard James officiating. Burial will follow in Llano East Cemetery. Ray was born on June 13, 1942 to Louise and Jack Raymond in Kansas City, Missouri. While attending Lincoln High School in Lincoln, Nebraska he landed his first job at 15 years old kicking off his 44 year career in the grocery store business at Safeway and Homeland. In 1959, Ray met the love of his life, Sandy, in high school, and they wed in September of 1960, going on to have three children together, Rex, Jack, and Scott. After retiring in 2008 from Pak-a-Sak, Ray spent his time doing his favorite activities spending time with his grandkids and great grandkids, relaxing at their cabin in Eagle Nest, and working on his old school cars. Anyone who knew Ray knows he had an indescribable love for his family, loved to make people laugh, and was always so positive and optimistic. He once said, "what makes a good life is a close family who cares about one another and works hard at work and home to make it all successful." Ray would remind his children that they dont have to go to work, they get to go to work. Ray was predeceased by his mother Louise Koehne and her husband, Bill; Father, Jack Raymond Hensley; Brother, Jack Hensley and his wife Connie. He will be forever remembered by his wife of 62 years, Sandy Hensley; Sister, Donna Gies and husband Jim of Lincoln, Nebraska; Sons, Rex Hensley and wife Christy, Jack Hensley and wife Carrie, and Scott Hensley and his wife Madeline of Amarillo, TX; 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
