On June 13, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family, Rebecca Ornelas went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was 63. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at Rector Pioneer Chapel. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home.

Rebecca “Becky” was born to Erminia “Minnie” and Eluterio Ornelas on July 4, 1962. Becky, a longtime resident of Amarillo, worked as a childcare giver for many years. She loved children. She worked as private nanny and at the Wesley Community Center, Learning Center and lastly at Trinity Lutheran Day Care. She was youngest of eleven children. She lovingly and selflessly accompanied and cared for her parents. She was a light to the family, always giving of herself; always putting others first. She loved caring for her nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved.

She graduated from Caprock Hich School then went on to attend Latin American Bible Institute in San Antonio where she graduated in 1987.

Becky enjoyed reading romance novels and coloring intricate color books for relaxation. Best of all, she loved cooking for anyone and for any occasion, always giving of herself. Everyone loved Becky’s and “Minnie’” special recipe of chicken mole and rice. Becky loved her pet dogs Cinnamon and Sheldon that loved her equally as well.

Becky was preceded in death by her parents Erminia “Minnie” and Eluterio Ornelas, two sisters Rebecca Ornelas of Amarillo and Judy Ann Vigil of Los Lunas, NM; two brothers Richard Daniel Ornelas and Samuel Ornelas both of Amarillo.

Becky is survived by her sister Barbara Rose Perez of Bastrop, Tx, sister-in-law Pam Ornelas of Amarillo, brothers Ismael Ornelas and wife Juanita of Denver, Co., Jose Ornelas and wife Sun Cha of Stafford, Va, Leonard Ornelas of Amarillo, Francisco Ornelas and wife Melva of Amarillo and David Ornelas of Amarillo. She leaves behind her best friend and soul sister, Angie Lewis of Amarillo as well as over 150 nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

The Ornelas Family would like to thank BSA medical staff; especially the nurses and technicians for their compassion and care of our loving sister Becky.
