Reyes A. Sandoval 84, of Dimmitt left this world to be with his beloved Savior on August 29th, 2014 from his home in Dimmitt, Texas. Rosary will be held at 6:00 pm on the 8th of September 2014 at the Immaculate Conception Church. Memorial Mass will be Tuesday the 9th of September 2014 at 2:00pm at the Immaculate Conception Church. Grandpa was born on January 6th 1930 in Bertram, Texas to the late Feliciano and Micaela A. Sandoval of Donna, Texas. Grandpa was known for his strong work ethic, his love for sports, his dedication to unite people for a common good. Most of all Grandpa was know for his laughter, his quick wit and sense of humor that was one of a kind. He grew up in Donna, TX where he started out as a mechanic then he along with his 13 siblings would migrate up north to work in other states. On November 26, 1949 Grandpa would marry Ramona Rodriguez in Littlefield, TX they would move back to Bertram in 1950 but after a short time they would move to the Panhandle and make Dimmitt home. He was preceded in death by his brother Genaro Sandoval, granddaughter Rayna M. Taylor, son-in-law Andy Velvick. Grandpa was many things to many different individuals he was an Entrepreneur, a Civic leader, a Founder, a Sportsman, but his greatest achievement would be of a Father and Grandfather. Grandpa had eight children, Herminia S., Revecca R, Yolanda T., Elvia C., Reyes S., George S., Norma V., and Loretta S. He also had 18 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Grandpa impacted the Panhandle in so many different ways. He worked for the North, South, Flag, and Easter Gins for many years. In 1958, he would open his own business known to all as Rays Welding later he would partner with Julian Acevedo and open J & R Welding. During that time grandpa would help build the local basketball gymnasium, and local feed yards. He also worked for Dimmitt Agriculture for a time; he would then get the opportunity to work for the Plant where he stayed until he retired. Grandpa was known to unite men either in a game of baseball or even to help his community. In 1958 Grandpa and many friends helped to build and establish the 1st Immaculate Conception Church in Dimmitt. He along with his brother and son-in-law would help to bring about the Lions Club (for Hispanics) and later on the Holy Cross Society. He was a Parish Council Officer, a member of LULAC, and served as officer of the Azteca Economic Development Corp. Grandpa and several friends represented KDHNS bowling team. Grandpa had a love for baseball, golf, billiards, hunting, fishing, raising animals, but dominos that was his game. Many days were spent at the domino hall sharing great laughs, telling tall tales but best of all the company. Grandpa taught his children the meaning of a hard days work but also that it was important to spend quality time together as a family. He and his kids traveled to work outside of Texas, but also made time to enjoy the sites. He enjoyed taking his family to the lake, basketball games and over the years as his children & grandchildren participated in other school related activities. Grandpa was our greatest Bobcat supporter. His HA HA HA laugh, sense of humor, and big heart will be missed dearly and for those of you that knew him well Grandpa would like to say G.D In Memory of Grandpa we ask that you slow down and go enjoy a dinner with your family. All donations can be made to the Lupus Foundation and Cancer Society. Followed by a PRIVATE SERVICE at the South Cemetery, in Dimmitt Texas. There will be a dinner that will be announced.
