Ricardo “Richard” DeLeon Medellin, 69, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, November 5, 2025.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at Rector Funeral Home Chapel, with Jimmy Rivero officiating. Burial will follow at Llano Cemetery. Viewing will be from 10:00 a.m. to 1:55 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Richard was born on March 11, 1956, in Lubbock, Texas, to Pablo Medellin and Joaquina “Josephine” Medellin. He met Evelyn, the love of his life, in 1972 and they married in 1973, whom he shared 52 years of marriage with. They later went on having two daughters, Laurie and Cynthia. Richard’s lifelong passion for cars led him to open Richard’s Body Shop, a successful business that served both the Lubbock and Amarillo communities for 49 years. His hard work supported his family but also allowed him to give back to the local community.
Richard cherished his Sunday morning Waffle House dates with Evelyn, family vacations with his children and grandchildren. Richard loved the outdoors—camping, fishing, grilling—and enjoyed caring for his livestock and horses. He was an avid football fan watching games (Go Cowboys!), attending drag car races and auctions, and was well known as a pool shark who loved playing with his brother and nephews.
Those who knew Richard will remember him as a straightforward, honest man who always “told it like it is.” He was a proud grandfather who loved each of his grandchildren dearly: Diego, joining the army; Paul, his football-watching buddy and roasting partner; and Samantha, Kitana, Dazlina, and his “Princess” Angelina, pursuing their dreams.
His final request for his family was to grieve if they must, but to keep moving forward and living, to show compassion, and to find forgiveness in their hearts during difficult times.
Richard was preceded in death by his father, Pablo Medellin; brothers, Manuel and Johnny Medellin; and sisters, Diana Jones, Dominga Galindo, and Felipa Talamantez.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Medellin; daughters, Laurie Roybal Medellin and Cynthia Medellin (and husband Michael Schoenberg); grandchildren, Diego and Dazlina Carlos, Paul and Angelina Schoenberg, Samantha and Kitana Roybal; his mother, Joaquina “Josephine” Medellin; and sisters, Ernestina (and husband Philip Ramirez), Linda Medellin, Juana Paez, Ruby Medellin, Rosita Diaz, and Sylvia (and husband Manuel Gonzales) and numerous nieces and nephews.
He believed that learning a trade was just as important as education. Richard’s continued supports of non-profits included St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at www.stjude.org/donate; Ronald McDonald House at https://www.rmhcofamarillo.org/donate/; in which, donations would also be appreciated.
Pallbearers: Diego Carlos, Nathaniel Paez (standing for Jesse Paez Jr.), Robert Talamantez, Christopher Rangel, Paul Schoenberg, and Michael Schoenberg Jr. Honorary Pallbearer: Vaughn Johnson
