Ricky Lee Howerter

Rick Howerter, 69, passed away at his home on October 26, 2017 in Amarillo, TX He was born on November 26, 1947 in Liberal, KS to Harold and Lu, and raised in Guymon, OK (10 years) and Spearman, TX. Upon graduation from Spearman High School in 1965, Rick attended West Texas College, Canyon, TX. Rick married Carole Gray in June 1969 and while at Canyon had their first child, Rob, in March 1971. Rick left college to fulfill his lifelong desire to be a real cowboy, working for a local rancher in the Canyon, TX area. He continued his lifelong desire of cowboyn throughout the Palo Duro Canyon, close to Spearman, TX. Ricks momma tried her best to keep Rick from growing up to be a cowboy! Rick and Carole had their second child, Suzanne, in April 1973.Rick later married Sandy Carpenter in July 1981 and relocated to Wills Point, TX.Rick married a third time to Janet Bell in December 2007 and continued to live near Wills Point, TX at Lake Tawakoni. Rick was hauling concrete in the Dallas/Ft Worth area for several years and elected to move to Amarillo to be closer to family.Rick was an honest man and spoke openly with his feelings and thoughts, which got him into trouble occasionally! Rick enjoyed fishing, grilling, watching bull-riding or westerns and being with family. Rick was preceded in death by his wife, Carole, and his parents, Harold and Lu. Survivors include his son, Rob; daughter, Suzanne (JJ); his grandchildren, Julie and Isaac; and great-grandchild, Jaylen, all of Amarillo, TX; brother, Ron (Sheila), of League City, TX and step-sister, Gretchen, of Oregon. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Tuesday October 31, 2017. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to those who shared a relationship and friendship with Rick. Memorial services will be at the Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage St, Amarillo, TX at 11:00 am, Wednesday, November 1, 2017.Officiated by Terry Callis.
