Rita Jo Pyeatt

Rita Jo Pyeatt (Mulkey), 88, of Amarillo, Texas passed on August 21, 2018. Rita was born June 29, 1930 to Johnnie Bertrand and Dorothy Tecque (Holden) Mulkey in Amarillo, Texas. She grew up in Amarillo and graduated from Amarillo High School in 1948.She worked as a secretary for the Santa Fe Railroad and the Amarillo Independent School District. In 1953, Rita married Douglas "Buddy" Pyeatt and they had three children who were raised in Amarillo, until Buddy was transferred by Texaco to Donaldsonville, LA. Rita taught Sunday School at her church there for many years. She and Buddy returned to Amarillo in 1989 and Rita continued to teach Sunday School at Southeast Baptist Church, where she was a member. Among her many talents, she made many beautiful quilts for loved ones. She was preceded in death by her husband Douglas "Buddy" Pyeatt, her sister Nell McKay, her son Darrel Pyeatt, her daughter Darlene Pyeatt Millien, and her daughter-in-law Sue Pyeatt. She is survived by her son Paul Pyeatt; daughter-in-law Fran Pyeatt; grandsons Monty Williams IV, Peter Pyeatt and Dylan Pyeatt; granddaughters Pam Hapney, Leslie Hollier, Laura Brown and Lucy Pyeatt; great-grandsons Monty Williams V and Liam Pyeatt; great-granddaughters Kat Hapney, Hazel Brown and Tiana Pyeatt. The family requests that memorial donations be made to B.S.A.
