Rita Jean Tindle

Rita Jean Read 73, of Amarillo went to be with the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday March 3, 2020 at 1:37 am. She was surrounded by her loving family in the comfort of her home. Services will be at 2 pm Saturday at Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel with Weldon Read, brother officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St. Rita was born July 28, 1946 to D. C. Read and Bettye Lou Lewis Read, in Tulia, Texas, in Swisher County. The family resided in Happy Texas. Rita was the first of three children. She lived in other communities across the Texas Panhandle and South Plains. The family moved to Wellman Texas, when her father was ordained as a Methodist Minister in 1955. In 1959 the family moved to Muleshoe when her father was assigned to the YL Church as pastor. The family moved to Mobeetie Texas in 1961. In High school Rita played basketball and was a cheerleader. It was in Mobeetie she met her husband Robert Gordon Kelley and were married on July 4, 1964. Her three sons Kendall, Randall, And Deitrick Kelley were born. The boys were the love of her life. Rita was active in church and gave her life to the Lord early in age. She was a beautiful person and was always well liked and had the fabulous ability to set down at the piano and play without any lessons. She cherished her time playing the organ and piano for many congregations. She was also a hair stylist and a mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. After her sons were grown, she worked at J. C. Penny for the remainder of her working career. She was a person that could sell anything to just about anybody. She will be missed! Rita was preceded in death by her parents, Reverend D. C. Read and Bettye Lou (Lewis) Read and her sister Mary Lou Read Call Long. She is survived by her brother Weldon D. Read and his wife Patricia of Amarillo; three sons, Kendall Kelley and wife Niki, Randall Kelley and wife Neely, and Dee Kelley and wife Misty all of Amarillo; seven grandchildren, Dezra Lott, Camron Kelley, Brandon Kelley, Keegan Kelley, Emorie Kelley, Keirstyn Kelley, and Keiryn Kelley and two great grandchildren Olive Lott and Dane Lott.
