Robert Verle Guess 91, of Amarillo died Friday July 3, 2009 at the Thomas E. Creek Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Graveside services will be at 11:00 AM Wednesday at Memory Gardens Cemetery with Chris Kutin, Chief Chaplain of the Thomas E. Creek Veterans Affairs Medical Center officiating. Military Honors will be rendered by Fort Hood, Fort Hood, Texas. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home osage Chapel, 2800 S. osage St. SSgt. Guess was born in Keokuk, IA. He served the US Army during WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He retired from active duty in 1969 at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio after 25 years of honorable service. He enjoyed playing the piano and spending time at home. He was a member of Manor Baptist Church in San Antonio and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. SSgt. Guess moved to Amarillo in 2001 from San Antonio. He married Marjorie Carr in 1936 at Carthage, IL. She preceded him in death in 2001. He is survived by 1 son, Robert B. Guess and his wife Catherine of Amarillo; 3 daughters, Bonnie Myers and Janis Moore both of Amarillo and Virginia Barker and her husband Bob of Charlotte, NC; 1 sister, Doris Hancock of Claremore, OK; 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
