Ronald Charles Wopperer

Ronald Charles Wopperer, 71 of Amarillo died Wednesday June 24, 2009 in Amarillo. Services will be at 10:00 AM Saturday at South Georgia Baptist Church with Bob Miller, pastor, Robert Brown, associate pastor and Jed Humphrey, minister of worship, officiating. Burial will be at Llano East Cemetery, Field of Valor with military honors rendered by the DAV Chapter #26. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St. Mr. Wopperer was born in Buffalo, NY. He moved to Amarillo during his service in the Air Force. He was stationed at the Amarillo Air Force Base. Mr. Wopperer was an avid reader. He loved studying History and his Bible. He received Masters Degrees in History, Physical Education and Administration. He taught at Hilltop Elementary, Horace Mann, San Jacinto Elementary and Amarillo High School. He served as Assistant Principal at Horace Mann and San Jacinto. He volunteered as a Cardiac Rehab Instructor at BSA and loved weight lifting at Zachs club where he made many friends. He was a member of South Georgia Baptist Church and had attended Oasis Southwest Baptist Church. He married Delores White in 1957 at Amarillo. She preceded him in death in 2007. He is survived by 1 son, Michael Wopperer and his wife Regina of Amarillo; 3 grandchildren, David Wopperer, Jennifer Smith and Brett West all of Amarillo and 3 great-grandchildren, Michael Wopperer, Dakota Wopperer and Bradasia Smith. The family suggests memorial donations be to South Georgia Baptist Church or the American Heart Association.
