Roy E. Welch

Roy E. Welch 59, of Amarillo died Saturday August 9, 2008 at the Thomas E. Creek Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Memorial Services will be at 10:00 AM Wednesday at Chaparral Hills Baptist Church with Alan Burkhalter, pastor officiating. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St. Mr. Welch was born June 16, 1949 in Amarillo to Joe and Imogene (Williams) Welch. He graduated from Caprock High School and attended Amarillo College. He joined the Navy in 1969 He served on the White Sands sub tender for a one man atomic submarine. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, Mr. Welch worked for Santa Fe Railroad. He also worked as a painter and part-time bartender. Mr. Welch was preceded in death by a brother, Robert V. ""Bob"" Welch in 2004 and his father, Joe Welch in 2008. He enjoyed fishing and playing pool. He will be missed by all who knew him. Survivors include his mother, 1 daughter Caitlin Welch of Amarillo; 2 sons, Shawn Welch of Pampa and Brandon Welch of Amarillo; 2 step-sons, Bryan Triplett of Amarillo and Trevor Curtin of Fort Worth; 2 granddaughters, Morgan Welch of Portland, ME and Katherine Dean of Amarillo and his beloved dogs, Mickey, Camie and Muttley. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Amarillo SPCA, 11901 S. Coulter Amarillo, Texas 79119.
