Sammie Raye Thompson

Sammie Raye Thompson 77 of Amarillo died Monday, June 9, 2014 in Amarillo Services will be at 10:00 AM Thursday at Christian Heritage Church. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St. Amarillo, Texas. Mrs. Thompson was born on June 17, 1936 in Lookeba, OK to Samuel and Annie Isbell. She moved to Amarillo in 1971. Mrs. Thompson was a dedicated wife mother and homemaker. She married LaVon Thompson on September 18, 1956. They pastored churches in Garfield, NM, Lubbock and Amarillo. Being the wife of a pastor, Mrs. Thompson wore many hats. She served as a minister with her husband, to those that needed her. She was a Stay At Home mom, and cared for her four children and raised them to love the Lord. She was a professional seamstress and a Master Gardener. She enjoyed working in her garden. She even hung many rolls of wallpaper during her life. Mrs. Thompsons spiritual gift was service. She loved serving people in many different ways. She used her talents as a seamstress, a cook, a teacher, friend and confidant. She was always putting others before herself. Most of all she enjoyed spending time in prayer and doing her part to further the Kingdom of God. She will be deeply missed by her friends and family. She is survived by her husband of 57 years; 3 sons, Tommy Thompson and his wife Amy, Terry Thompson, and Rodney Thompson and his wife Heather all of Amarillo; one daughter, Tammie Tabor and her husband James of Bushland; two brothers, S.T. Isbell, Jr. of Stinnett and Gene Isbell of Cordell, OK; 2 sisters, Mary Preston of Antioch, CA and Roberta Stanley of Summerville, SC; 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
