Samuel Ray Chancler, 81, of Amarillo died on Saturday July 15, 2006 in Amarillo. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday July 19, 2006 at 10:00 AM at Rector Funeral Home, Osage Chapel with Pastor Don Weemes, of Victory Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home, Osage Chapel, 2800 South Osage. Interment will be in Llano Cemetery with Military Rites by the local DAV Chapter. Mr. Chancler came from a family of military service men, which we are so proud of. All of his brothers served their country during World War II and had one brother that served during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Chancler served in the US Navy during World War II. He was a great musician and loved music. He played the banjo at Shakeys Pizza Parlor in the early 80's. He also played with Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Johnny Paycheck and various other artists. He owned and operated his own barber shop in Westhaven Village. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church He was preceded in death by his parents Samuel and Bertha Chancler, two sisters, Maxine Hook and Elizabeth Counts, and four brothers, Jim Chancler, E.W. Chancler, Carl ""Buddy"" Chancler and Calvin John Chancler. He is survived by a son, Conner Chancler and his wife Deborah of Amarillo; three sisters, Faye Carter of Amarillo; Helen Slaght of Amarillo; and Kathy Renfroe and her husband Darrell of Amarillo; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive visitors Tuesday evening from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
