Sandford J. Thurston, 81, of Amarillo died Thursday October 20, 2005 in Amarillo. Funeral Service will held Monday at 10:00 AM at Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel with the Reverend James Crawford of Cornerstone Baptist Church, Sherman TX, officiating. Interment will be at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 South Osage St. Amarillo Texas. Mr. Thurston was born July 10, 1924 in Des Moines, Iowa and lived in Amarillo for the past 50 years. He married Esther Gallardo in 1959 at Clovis, NM. He was a veteran of World War II; having served in the Army with the 82nd Airborne Paratroopers. He was very proud to have served his country, and was a member of the DAV. He enjoyed fishing, loved his grandchildren and the Dallas Cowboys. He was a Baptist. Survivors include his wife of the home; five daughters; Sandy Thurston and Sarah Munoz, both of Amarillo; Shari Aragon of Duncan, OK; Sally Frohling of Atlanta, GA; and Susan Harwood of Baton Rouge, LA; one son, Jay Thurston of Amarillo. Two sisters, Leotta Pullman of Muscatine, Iowa, and Lois Marolf of Moscow Iowa. One brother, Edgar Kublik of Wilton Iowa, 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
