Selma Clara “Sammie” Luvaul, age 95 years old, passed away Sunday, March 2, 2025, at Ussery-Roan Texas State Veterans Home in Amarillo.
Sammie was born March 31, 1929, in Kerrville, Texas. She was the daughter of the late Albert and Olga (Wehmeyer) Peschel. Sammie grew up on a ranch and farm and that "pioneer spirit" lasted throughout her life. Fishing, dancing, and country western music were her passions, which she shared with husband Charles. She loved animals, espcecially her dogs, and she was known for her "green thumb" gardening. Crocheting and arts and crafts filled her days as she got older.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Luvaul; daughter, Debra Kay Luvaul; great-grandson, David Bennett; and four sisters and a brother. Sammie is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Dahl and Mary Luvaul of Amarillo; daughters and sons-in-law: Sharon Luvaul Files and Michael Chaky of Cypress, Texas, and Peggy and Michael Bennett of Trinidad, Texas; eight grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The celebration of Sammie’s life will be 2:00 PM, Saturday March 8 at Rector Funeral Home, 2800 South Osage Street, Amarillo. Burial will follow at Llano Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday one hour prior to the service beginning at 1:00 PM.
