Amarillo

Sherry Lynn Young, 77, of Amarillo died Wednesday, July 15, 2026.

A memorial service is planned for August 15th at 11:00 at Washington Avenue Christian Church.

Sherry was born July 21, 1948, in Amarillo to Bobby Lee Dunavin and Laverne Elba Walker. She married Tommy Young on Oct. 23, 1964.

Sherry worked in patient care at Elizabeth Jane Bivins home and personal home health care for over 15 years loving on the elderly in her care, one of her many gifts - loving people. She had an amazing gift of showing that to all she met and passed that along to her family.

Her favorite things were watching her Cowboys and Rangers and playing Wahoo with anyone up to the challenge. But her most favorite thing in the world was her grandbabies. She leaves them with so many memories of good times with their “Memaw.” From shenanigans to sleep overs with the best pancakes in world, she loved her kids. A massive collection of cookie jars and Coca Cola stuff of all kinds. She always passed on to her family how to love people no matter what or who they were, and to always work hard and help others. She proved that by getting a GED after 10 years away from school, one of her proudest achievements. She never quit. She was the best mom and Memaw ever.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and sisters-in-law, Debbie Dunavin and Virginia Alford.

She is survived by her husband, Tommy; her brothers, Rusty Dunavin and wife Rena and Mike Dunavin; her son, Bryan Young and wife Lori of Amarillo; her grandkids, Tyler Young and wife Karissa, Jordyn Kosechata and husband Zak, Sydney Samolewski and husband Alex, Ashley Richburg and husband Jordan, Kobe “Boss,” Haleigh Burns and husband Nick, McKenzie McFadden and husband Dustin and Bodey Cearley; 14 great-grandkids; and a huge multitude of cousins.
