Sterling Randle Allsup, 85, of Amarillo died Wednesday January 17, 2007 in Amarillo, TX. Graveside service will be held Tuesday January 23, 2007 at 2:00 PM in Llano Cemetery Mausoleum, with Rev. John Watson officiating. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Coulter Chapel 8310 S. Coulter Amarillo, Texas. Mr. Allsup was born April 14, 1921 in Bryans Mill, TX to Sterling Alfred and Rothie Patterson Allsup. He was one of eleven children born to the couple. Sterling married Hazel Marie Buck in San Diego, CA on October 21, 1942, just after entering the United States Marine Corp. He spent almost three years in the Pacific Theater, transforming him from a farm boy into the man he became. He was trained as a watch repairman after World War II, but was employed by the Helium Plant of Amarillo for thirty years as a dock superintendent. Utilizing his watch repair knowledge after retirement, he began working on antique clocks and eventually became a certified horologist and clock collector. He was married for 62 years and had a life replete with trials and tribulations, joys and heartaches. Always the Marine, however, he withstood it all and managed to inculcate two sons and numerous co-workers to his rigid work ethics and tenacious spirit to do the best you can at whatever you do. This was most obvious in his love of clock repair and his agonizing over making a 200 year old clock run like new. His wisdom, love and his rye sense of humor will be greatly missed, but his influence will continue to impact his only remaining son, his granddaughter, and his two great grandchildren. Mr. Allsup is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and four sisters, his wife and a son Randle ""Pasha"" Allsup. Survivors include: a son Rick Allsup and wife Jerry of Amarillo, 2 sisters Nadine Crowder of El Paso, and Mary Lou Clark of Lubbock; 2 brothers Glenn Allsup of Lubbock, and Bobby Allsup of El Paso; a granddaughter Ashley Lee and husband Scott of Amarillo, and 2 great grandchildren Savannah, and Kara Lee of Amarillo.
