Tom G. Luther

Tom G. Luther 83, of Amarillo died Monday March 9, 2009 in Amarillo. Services will be at 2:00 PM Thursday at Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel with Rev. Robert E. Field, retired Baptist minister officiating. Military Honors will be by the DAV Chapter #26. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel 2800 S. Osage St. Amarillo, Texas. Mr. Luther was born in Hamble Hill, TN. He moved to Amarillo more than 50 years ago. He served in the Marine Corps during WWII and Korea. He was discharged as a Sergeant. Mr. Luther was a very talented musician. In his early years he played the guitar and sang in the Ridgerunner Band from Tennessee. He worked as a carpenter before becoming an auto transport driver for Jack Cooper Transport. He retired in 1993. Mr. Luther married Mary S. Johnson in 1957 at Hereford. He was a member of Southwest Baptist Church. He was a loving husband father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by a son Butch Luther in 1975. Survivors include his wife, 1 son Mike Luther of Amarillo; 2 daughters, Debby Gillispie and her husband Leon of Amarillo and Claytia Doran and her husband Densel of Waco; 5 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. The family requests memorial donations be to a favorite charity.
