Tommy Elgene Thomason

October 10, 1934 — December 23, 2017

Tommy Elgene Thomason went home to his heavenly father on December 23, 2017. Tommy was born in Bowie, Texas to Ava Ilene and Drexel Alvin Thomason on October 10, 1934. Bowie was Tommys home town and where he graduated from Bowie High School in 1952. Tommy attended University of North Texas and was a center on the Mean Green football team. After college Tommy enlisted in the United States Army, he served during the Korean War. He was stationed in Thule, Greenland. Tommy ended his service with and honorable discharge. Tommy called Midland his home where he started his family and worked in the automobile industry at the Lincoln Mercury dealership and in the oil industry as well. Tommy was an avid golfer and gin rummy player and enjoyed his friends in these ongoing competitions This is where he earned the nick name Titanic! Tommy has 57 years of sobriety and was proud of his opportunity to council and sponsor many in local AA programs over the years. Later in life Tommy retired to his family ranch, The Bar XL in Des Moines, New Mexico until health issues required he be closer to the VA Hospital in Amarillo. He lived there with his two dogs, Spike and Pancho until his passing. Tommy was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Derrell Allen Thomason. He is survived by his daughter, Angelia Thomason and his son Richard Thomason and wife Garilynn of Midland, his Grandson, Jesse Elgene of Lexington Va. Tommy was surrounded by so many good people at the end of his life with Nurse Core with Nurse Judy and Andrea Hurtado, neighbors, Flor and Joeson Gilbert, Tony and Johnnawe want to thank these special people and all the staff and doctors at the VA Hospital. There will be a memorial service to celebrate Tommys life on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel at 1:00 pm In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the charity of your choice.
