Virginia Baird Ketzel 77 of Amarillo died Wednesday August 22, 2007 at Amarillo. Services will be at 2:00 PM Friday at Rector Funeral Home Coulter Chapel with Richard Higley, chaplain at Vista Care Hospice officiating. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home 8310 S. Coulter St. Amarillo, Texas. Mrs. Ketzel was born in Amarillo. She graduated from Amarillo High School. Mrs. Ketzel was a homemaker and had worked for the Amarillo ISD as the cafeteria manager for Fannin Jr. High. After leaving the Amarillo ISD, she worked as a weekend program director at the Amarillo Sr. Citizens Assoc. Mrs. Ketzel was the pitcher for the first Kids Inc. girl's softball team and was very active in Girl Scouts as a child and young adult. She was also a life member of the PTA. She married Norman ""Tex"" Ketzel in 1948 at Lovington, NM. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2000 and a sister; Maxine Bichsel. She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. Survivors include: 3 daughters; Sharon Silva and her husband Robert and Sandra Barnes and her husband Roy all of Amarillo and Annita Quiggle and her husband Larry of Rio Ranch, NM, 1 son; Gary Ketzel of Huntsville, 2 brothers; Walter Baird and his wife Sue of Prescott, AZ and James Baird and his wife Frances of Amarillo, 1 sister; Margie Valentine of Lubbock, a brother in law; Maynard Bichsel of Washburn, 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren The family will receive friends from 5:30 PM 7:30 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
