Virginia Kay West, 82, of Borger, Texas, passed away on April 27, 2026.

Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage.

Kay was born in Amarillo, Texas, on May 24, 1943, to Shirley O. Van Skike. She attended Palo Duro High School and went on to Amarillo College, where she received her associate’s degree. She married Jerry West in Amarillo on December 9, 1960.

Kay worked as a nutritionist for Eastridge Elementary School and loved each of the children she served.

Kay enjoyed sewing, reading, cooking, camping, and spending time with friends. Above all, she cherished time with her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life.

Kay and Jerry were members of the Amarillo Buggy Club and loved taking their family to the Canadian River.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry West “Short Papaw;” her daughter-in-law, Kim West; and her granddaughter, Melissa Kay McKinney.

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Kay Callahan; her son, Jimmy “Joe” West; her grandchildren, Keri Sue West and Trevor West, Nicholas Brown and wife Shai, Heather Anne Muro and husband TJ, Tiffney Marie Dale, Cody Allen Brown and CJ McKinney; her great-grandchildren, Amberson Bell, Aaron Bell, Aidian Bell, Yasmin Brown, Samantha Kay Flowers, Collin Jerry McKinney, Xavier Muro, Sebastian Muro, Damion Dale and Faith Kay Dale; her extended grandchildren, Victor Gutierrez and wife Melinda, Adam Dale, Lousie Sandoval and wife Leahya, Ezequiel Porras, Daniel Orona and wife Alana, Jason Torres and wife Jessica, Josie Porras, Magan Edwards, Lilly Goodwin, Callie Yost, Betsy Edwards, and Wayne Edwards and wife Susan, Corbie Fristoe, Melinda McNutt and Jessica Claytor; and her extended great-grandchildren, Victor Gutierrez, Applynn Gutierrez, Ashbea Gutierrez, Victoryha Gutierrez and Oliver Gutierrez, Kamila Sandoval and Nicholas Sandoval, Joslynn Orona and Eli Orona, Louise Herrera, Tristan Fisk, Carmin Edwards, Caylee Edwards and Chloie Edwards.
