Vondell Mchargue

Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Palo Duro Cemetery in Wildorado with the Rev. Ron Muller, pastor of Palo Duro Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St. Mrs. McHargue was born Nov. 27, 1925, in Vega to Tom T. and Ida ""Alice"" (Brazil) Routson. She married Gordy Camp in Yuma, Ariz. She received her cosmetology license and had two children, Nancy Camp and Lonnie Camp. She moved back to Amarillo following the death of her first husband. She met and married Grady McHargue of Mound. He preceded her in death in 2000. She taught day care to kindergarten aged children for several years. She taught in Denver and Dallas. After her retirement, she moved to a lake house out side of Dallas, where she enjoyed visits from her family and friends. She moved back to Vega several years ago to be closer to her family. She moved to Amarillo shortly after the death of her husband and then back to Wildorado. She loved crocheting, sewing, gardening, canning, bowling, dominos and other games. She also enjoyed cooking for a small army of family at the holidays. Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Walters and husband Charles of Wildorado; a son, Lonnie and wife Linda of Vega; two sisters, Maxine Denton of Panhandle and Cloretta Lowery of Vega; a brother, David Routson and wife Ruth of Cleburn; 15 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Odyssey Hospice, 6900 W. Interstate 40, Suite 150, Amarillo, TX 79106.
