Walter ""Walt"" Johnson 73, of Amarillo went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Wednesday August 25, 2010. Private family burial will be at Llano Cemetery. Memorial services will be at 11:00 AM Friday at Trinity Baptist Church with Nate Magloughlin pastor officiating. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage St. Walt was born in Larned, KS on July 5, 1937 to George L. and Vera Minnie (Post) Johnson. He was a long-time Amarillo resident. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1955. He worked as an insurance adjuster for more than 40 years. Walt worked for The Hartford, Trinity Insurance and American Insurance Companies. He retired in 1998. He served as a deacon at Trinity Baptist Church and as a greeter. He never met a stranger. Walt was a devout Christian and loved serving the Lord. He was always smiling and had a special gift greeting everyone that walked through the doors of Trinity Baptist Church. His love for the Lord was evident by the love he extended to his many friends and family. Walt was very loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. Walt was a very talented wood carver. He was a member of the Golden Spread Wood Carvers Club and a faithful member of Trinity Baptist Church He was married Jane Wilson on July 23, 1955 in Albuquerque, NM. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister in law. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, 1 daughter, Melody Witherspoon and her husband Jeff of Amarillo; 1 grandson, Hunter Witherspoon and his girlfriend Michelle Chandler of Amarillo; 1 great-grandson, Heath Jake Witherspoon of Amarillo; a niece, Jim Ann Rasco and her husband George of Amarillo; a great-niece, Leslie Justice and her husband Blaize of Amarillo and a great-nephew, Logan Rasco of Abilene. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donation be sent to Trinity Baptist Church 1601 I 40 West Amarillo, Texas 79102, The Gideon's International or Olivia's Angels in care of BSA Hospice 600 N. Tyler Amarillo, Texas 79107.
