Wayne A. Mullin

Wayne Mullin 73 of Amarillo died Sunday Sept. 23, 2007 in Amarillo. Services will be at 2:00 PM Friday at Rector Funeral Home Coulter Chapel with Bishop James Cabalas of the Church of God of Prophecy in Camas, WA officiating. Interment will be at Llano East Cemetery, Field of Valor with military honors by the U.S. Navy. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home 8310 S. Coulter St. Amarillo, Texas. Mr. Mullin was born on Aug. 8, 1934 at Bessemay, Texas. He joined the U.S. Navy on May 10, 1952 as a machinist mate. He served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars and retired from the Navy on May 10, 1971. His naval career provided him with many object lessons for his next career and life venture. He was ordained as a minister of the Church of God of Prophecy and through the years earned a Bachelors degree in Theology from Southwest Bible College. He pastored 7 congregations in Texas, Utah and New Mexico over 27 years. He also pastored in Amarillo from July 1997 until his death. The congregation he pastored in Amarillo was very unique. He co-pastored with Emeterio and Norma Gomez. This was a special combination of English and Spanish speaking members. There were language barriers at times because Mr. Mullin could not speak Spanish. This barrier was more than overcome by a love that was inspiring to all who witnessed it. His family is very thankful for this Church body. In November of 1957, Mr. Mullin met the love of his life, Rebecca Cabalas while he was on a 30 day leave in Oceano, CA. They were married only 16 days after they met. He was heard a couple of weeks ago joking that he didn't know why it took him so long to marry that women He was preceded in death by his father; Ben Mullin, his mother; Arlene Mullin and a brother; Don Mullin. Survivors include: his wife of the home, 3 daughters; Laura Scott and her husband Jerry of Baytown, Deanna Blanscet and her husband Calvin of Amarillo and Janelle Cardinal and her husband Kevin of Hereford, 2 sons; Kevin Mullin of Amarillo and Duane Mullin of Seattle, WA and 5 grandchildren.
