Weldon Burt Thorp Sr., 84, of Amarillo, died Sunday, October 24, 2021. Funeral Service is at 10 am Friday, October 29 at Rector Funeral Home officiated by Vincent M. Compagno. Interment will follow at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage. The family will receive guests 6-8 pm Wednesday and Thursday at the funeral home Weldon was born in Fredrick, Ok. on November 5, 1936, to Ollie and James Thorp. He was a farm boy, a Devoted son, and a husband. He was especially brilliant and analytical. He enjoyed restoring antique radios and describing how they worked. Weldon enjoyed a glass of wine, but also believed a man should be able to work on the farm during the day and dress up for the opera that night. Weldon was a hard-working man. He was an instrument specialist from 1967- 1980 in California, after he moved to Amarillo, he worked for Pantex from 1981-1990. As he worked for Pantex, he started West Texas Controls and Studio 87, here in Amarillo. He moved to Albuquerque starting Family Portraits Studio with his wife Phylliss. They operated Family Portrait Studio with the help of family until Phylliss passed away in 2001. Weldon married Phylliss Montgomery on June 2, 1957. They were married for 44 years until she passed away. Family meant the world to Weldon. Nothing made him prouder than his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Weldon married Juanita Collins on August 9, 2002. They were married for 12 years until she passed away on September 30, 2014. Weldon enjoyed Horses and being around people. He was a kind man as well as a God-fearing man and devout member of the Church of Christ. He also was a Mason for 64, years. Weldon is preceded in death by his parents; James and Ollie Thorp, his first wife, Phylliss Thorp, his second wife, Juanita Thorp, one son, Weldon Burt Thorp Jr., one brother, Wayne Thorp. He is survived by his daughter, Talaisa Tucker and her husband Roger, one sister, Nell Williams, His identical twin brother, Eldon Thorp, his younger brother, Keith Thorp, his niece, Mena Smith and her husband David, 8 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
