A celebration of his life will be at 2:00 pm Saturday, March 19 in the Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel with the Rev. Jed Humphrey, minister of worship at South Georgia Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home 2800 S. Osage St. William was born on July 14, 1934 to Monroe and Suzie Carroll in Hale County, and was one of 7 brothers and sisters. Raised on a farm near Petersburg, he learned skills that would serve him throughout his life. After graduating high school, he worked as an apprentice for a funeral home in Plainview prior to enlisting into the U.S. Navy in 1958. As a Navy Corpsman, he served with a marine division stationed in the Philippines. He was later discharged, and returned to Plainview to work as a salesman at the Ford House. Upon moving to Amarillo, he continued selling cars and opened a business with his brother Willis. William married Sally Moore in 1965, and together had a son, Dirk. He later married Nancy Patricia Massey in 1997. After retiring from the car business in 1990, he became a proud member of the Moose Lodge #1361 serving as an officer for the past 20 years. William enjoyed playing Texas Hold Em at the lodge, and bragged that he was the best within several counties. He was a loving husbad and father who was well respected within his community. He will be deeply missed. Survivors include his wife, Pat; a son, Dirk both of Amarillo; step children, Penny Jurado of Houston, and Travis Sharber of Amarillo; 2 brothers, James Carroll of Levelland, and Willis Carroll of Amarillo; 5 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild. The family requests that memorials be made to the Moose Lodge # 1361. The family will receive friends form 6-7 pm on Friday, March 18 at the funeral home.
