William 'Bill' Logsdon

November 21, 1931 — August 30, 2020

William Dean Logsdon, son of John Lendol and Nettie Mae (Allen) Logsdon was born November 21, 1931 at Vici, OK. At the age of 88 he entered his heavenly home on August 30, 2020. Bill, as he was affectionately known, grew up in the Vici community. He attended grade school and high school in the Vici Public School system, graduating with the class of 1949. He furthered his education by attending Southwestern Oklahoma State University at Weatherford, OK. until 1953 where he received a Bachelor of Science degree. Bill served his country in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1957 attaining the rank of Sergeant. Following his honorable discharge from the Army he made his home for the next 63 years in Amarillo, TX. He was employed at the Amarillo Air Base teaching jet mechanics to young airmen before beginning a lengthy career with the Department of Energy at the Pantex Plant near Panhandle, TX. as a nuclear inspector. He retired in 1989. At Cordell, OK. on November 27, 1957, William Logsdon and Doris Schmidt were united in marriage. They were married 25 years and maintained a good relationship following their divorce in 1982. One son, Curtis, blessed their home. For many years, Bill enjoyed returning to Vici during the hunting season to hunt deer, turkey and quail with his brothers, his son, Curtis and friends. He also enjoyed the festivities of the Vici Alumni celebration and was a member of the Vici Masonic Lodge. Following his retirement traveling and touring parts of the USA were special interests. Countless trips were made with his companion, Jennie Kent and his brother, Jim and his wife Kathy. Regular trips to Casinos were always fun and if Bill did not play enough, Jennie would use his players card and run up points for special offers (dont tell anyone!). Cruises were a favorite and the Caribbean, Panama Canal, Hawaii and Alaska adventures made many special memories. Bill was baptized at the age of 21 and attended the Washington Avenue Christian Church in Amarillo, TX. He was a Sunday School teacher and was proud his students grew up to be leaders in the Church. El Porvenir Christian Camp in Montezuma, N.M. held a special place in his heart and many vacation days were spent in Gods Creation at the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Bill would drive out of camp just to watch the sun rise on the mountains to see the blood of Christ wash the mountains clean each morning. In later years as his health began to fail, Bill would say, "I am not as smart as I used to be". His son, Curtis, made the following comments concerning his Dad. "A few weeks ago he asked me, next time you talk to God tell him I am ready to see Jesus in Heaven. This was a conversation with God I never had, because of my selfishness, however, I would not wish him back to his earthly body after he has had the "taste of glory". With Dads passing my prayer is that all of his family knows God and Jesus as their personal savior. Life is hard, men fail each of us and being human we fail our fellow passengers in this life. The most important thing above all else is to realize the fallacies of the human race and to accept the grace and forgiveness of Jesus!!! This is above all things." William D. Bill Logsdon is preceded in death by his parents, John and Nettie Logsdon, two brothers, Gene Logsdon and Jerry Logsdon and his sister, Johnnie Mae Freed. His memory is cherished by his son, Curtis Logsdon and his wife, Terri of Amarillo, TX., three grandchildren, Hope Logsdon of San Antonio, TX., Kristin Kurtz and husband Chad of San Antonio, TX. and step grand son, Daniel Knight of Schertz, TX. Great grandchildren, Hannah Logsdon of New Braunfels, TX., Maxwell Logsdon, of San Antonio, TX., Eleanor Kurtz of San Antonio, TX. and step great grand children, Violet and Zander Knight of Schertz, TX. Jennie Kent, his life partner for over 30 years, his brother Jim Logsdon and wife Kathy of Panhandle, TX., Doris Logsdon, the mother of his son, of Amarillo, TX. and brother in law, Merlin Freed and wife, Nancy of Vici, OK., numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
