Woodrow Lamkin 85, of Amarillo died Tuesday Dec.31, 2002 in Amarillo. Graveside Services will be at 2:00 PM Friday at Llano East Cemetery with Bob Thomas, chaplain of the Crown of Texas Hospice officiating. Military Rites will be by the DAV Chapter #26. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage St. Mr. Lamkin was born in Memphis. He served in the Army during WWII where he received the EAME Campaign Medal with 6 bronze stars. He owned and operated an oil well drilling company and the Inter Urban Inn in Kermit from 1946 to 1950. He also worked in the oil pipe business in Colorado City. He moved to Amarillo in 1950 where he and his wife owned and operated a restaurant and rodeo arena at I-40 and Lakeside. Mr. Lamkin worked as a real estate agent and owned Panhandle Merchants Association. From 1970 to 1975 he worked as a commodities broker. He retired in 1975. He married Lucille “Lou” Smith in 1942 at Neosho, MO. She died in 2000. Survivors include: 3 sons; W.W. Lamkin, Jr. and Micheal Lamkin, both of Amarillo and Jay Lamkin of Anchorage, AK, 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren
